Everything shows you that it is the right time to prepare your garden and your lawn for the upcoming season.

However, if you want to do something properly, you should start with a good plan.

Garden

First, get out in your garden; look around you and set that are the priorities.

Put Your Perennials in Order

Usually, everything starts with “cleaning”. Perhaps, the cold season have ravaged, broken and tangled several perennials. Therefore, you need to tidy up them or to trim them. This process will help them to grow.

This time of the year is the perfect time to prune back perennials such as hydrangea or roses helping in this way the young shoots to develop.

Add Soil to Your Garden Beds

When everything is cleaned and your garden beds are free of broken branches you can add some soil or composted mulch to fill up the beds.

You can add your own-composted mulch or you can buy it from any garden store. Adding composted mulch is extremely important to have healthy and strong plants. In the same time, this will reduce the weeding amount that you will need to do in the coming months.

Fertilize Your Trees and Shrubs

You need to fertilize the trees and shrubs with adequate fertilizers.

Start Your Vegetable Garden

If you consider cultivating and growing a vegetable garden then this first month of spring is ideal to start this project.

March is the best month to start vegetable seed inside your house.

Lawn

Do not forget your lawn. Now at the beginning of spring you should start work on your lawn.

The first work phase is Core Aeration then Liming and Moss Control. This step will loosen the turf by removing cores of the compacted soil. This will help the fertilizer and Moss Control to penetrate easily the soil and to reach the grass roots.

Lawn liming is also critical. Liming improves the PH of your lawn. The best lime is the granular lime. It will act faster than other lime forms and will prevent the moss coming back.

However, when the moss came back you can remove it easily with your hand or using a thatch rake.

After moss removing it is the right time to repair your lawn. Therefore spread lawn seeds over the affected lawn surface, and then spread some turf soil, followed by a new seeds spreading and a starter fertilizer.

TIP 1:  You should water properly your lawn, using not too much quantity of water but watering often the sown area to facilitate the seed germination.

TIP 2: If your lawn is too infested, there is too much moss perhaps it is more convenient for you to replace the entire lawn area with new turf.
