WHO IS THE SCANDINAVIAN INTERIOR SUITABLE FOR?
The Scandinavian interior design style is characterized by the northern countries’ restraint and austerity. As a result, soft pastel colors are always prevalent in Scandinavian style interiors, which have few ornamental elements and use materials that are simple and generally natural. Scandinavian interior design is particularly unique in its simplicity and conciseness. It has a sense of order and peace. As a result, today we will go through a brief history of the birth of this style, as well as the characteristics of the color spectrum and finishing materials utilized to create this style.
It is critical to recognize that the interior of any apartment or house, each room within it, cannot exist independently, “separately” from the people who live there. Scandinavian style is not only a fashion trend, but also a way of life or philosophy that should complement your lifestyle and attitude.
COLOR PALETTE
White is, of course, the foundation of Scandinavian style. With the help of this color, each interior feature stands out and plays a part in the overall picture. The white color and utilization of natural light contribute to the overall lightness and simplicity. However, white is not a one-size-fits-all solution; many pastel colors can be employed for the interior. It can be gentle blue or light green, or any combination of beige and brown. It is advisable to utilize rich colors of blue, green, and red to give the interior dynamism and carefully put the accents.
QUALITY OF FINISHING MATERIALS USED
Many natural materials are employed when designing a Scandinavian interior. Natural leather, various types of fur, stone, and, of course, wood are used to accentuate the Scandinavian style’s connection to nature. High-quality metal or glass will not appear out of place, but the usage of plastic can detract from the overall visual image of a Scandinavian room. It should be noted that Scandinavian interiors and artificial materials can only be blended if they accurately mimic natural materials.
FURNITURE
Scandinavian furniture is typically functional and straightforward. They are notable not just for their beauty, but also for their exceptional utility. Naturally, furniture should be composed of natural materials, such as light-colored wood. It can be beech or birch, or, less frequently, pine or spruce.
WALL AND FLOOR DECORATION
When designing walls and flooring, light shades are particularly important. Typically, the walls are simply plastered and lightly painted. Wooden panels are sometimes used to cover not only the walls, but also the ceiling.
SCANDINAVIAN INTERIOR DECORATION
Scandinavian interior design is always simple and minimalistic. The walls are usually leveled, plastered, and consistently painted. The essential thing is to avoid using too many bright colors. The rooms’ ceilings should be smooth and luminous. Wooden panels are an unusual exception.
Subtle colors characterize Scandinavian interior design. Color combinations that are both frigid and warm are used. Designers often refer to this combination as “Baltic Sea colors.” This color palette has pastel blues, grays, and soft greens. Warm tones should be avoided in favor of amber or sand tones. Such hue tones provide coziness and warmth to the room.
Also, black components, whether furniture or decor, appear good against a white background. You can arrange rich tones of red, blue, or green with the help of bright accents. However, it is critical to remember that such accents simply serve to enhance the overall atmosphere and are never the primary features of that environment.
Building materials are straightforward and natural. Glass, high-quality metal, stone, and ceramics are used in Scandinavian-style interiors. Plastic should be avoided, but if used appropriately, it can be used in a modern Scandinavian-style environment.
The floor can be finished in two ways:
The floor is made of wood. Predominantly pale wood tones, frequently bleached or colored.
Ceramic tiles are commonly used in the kitchen and bathroom.
