Trend #1: Biophilic Design

Biophilic design is a concept that aims to connect humans with nature, both physically and psychologically. It is based on the idea that humans have an innate affinity for natural environments, and that exposure to nature can improve our well-being, creativity, and productivity. Biophilic design incorporates natural elements such as plants, water, light, wood, stone, and organic shapes into indoor spaces, creating a sense of harmony and balance.

Some examples of biophilic design in Nordic style are:

  • Vertical gardens: These are walls or panels that are covered with plants, creating a green oasis in your home. They can purify the air, reduce noise, and add a touch of freshness and color to your space. You can use a variety of plants, such as ferns, succulents, herbs, or flowers, depending on your preference and the amount of light and water they need.
  • Natural materials: Wood, stone, leather, wool, and linen are some of the natural materials that are commonly used in Scandinavian design. They add warmth, texture, and character to your space, and create a contrast with the white or neutral walls and floors. You can use natural materials for your furniture, flooring, rugs, cushions, curtains, or accessories, and mix and match different colors and patterns to create interest and variety.
  • Natural light: Natural light is essential for biophilic design, as it enhances the mood, energy, and health of the occupants. Scandinavian design maximizes the natural light by using large windows, skylights, mirrors, and light colors. You can also use sheer or translucent curtains to let the light in and avoid heavy or dark fabrics that block the light. You can also use artificial lighting that mimics natural light, such as LED bulbs, dimmers, or smart lamps, and adjust the brightness and color temperature according to the time of day and the season.

Trend #2: Hygge

Hygge is a Danish word that means “a cozy and comfortable feeling of contentment”. It is a lifestyle concept that embraces the simple pleasures of life, such as spending time with loved ones, enjoying a warm drink, reading a good book, or lighting a candle. Hygge is also a design concept that aims to create a cozy and inviting atmosphere in your home, where you can relax and unwind.

Some examples of hygge in Nordic style are:

  • Fireplaces: Fireplaces are a classic feature of hygge, as they provide warmth, light, and a focal point for your space. You can choose a traditional wood-burning fireplace, or a modern electric or gas fireplace, depending on your preference and budget. You can also decorate your fireplace with candles, lanterns, or fairy lights, to create a soft and romantic glow.
  • Blankets and pillows: Blankets and pillows are essential for hygge, as they provide comfort, softness, and a sense of security. You can use blankets and pillows of different sizes, shapes, colors, and textures, and layer them on your sofa, bed, or chair. You can also use blankets and pillows that have sentimental value, such as a family heirloom, a gift from a friend, or a souvenir from a trip, to add a personal touch to your space.
  • Books and magazines: Books and magazines are another way to enjoy hygge, as they stimulate your mind, imagination, and curiosity. You can create a cozy reading nook in your home, where you can curl up with your favorite book or magazine, and escape from the stress and noise of the outside world. You can use a comfortable chair, a side table, a lamp, and a bookshelf, to create your own personal library. You can also display your books and magazines on a coffee table, a wall shelf, or a console table, to add some color and interest to your space.

Trend #3: Colorful Accents

Colorful accents are a way to add some fun, personality, and flair to your Nordic style home, without compromising the simplicity and elegance of the design. Colorful accents can be used to create contrast, highlight, or complement the neutral or monochrome palette of your space, and to express your mood, taste, or style.

Some examples of colorful accents in Nordic style are:

  • Artwork: Artwork is a great way to add some color and creativity to your space, and to showcase your personal style and preferences. You can use artwork of different sizes, shapes, styles, and mediums, such as paintings, prints, posters, photographs, or sculptures, and display them on your walls, shelves, or tables. You can also use artwork that has a meaning or a story behind it, such as a piece that you made yourself, a piece that you bought from a local artist, or a piece that you inherited from a family member, to add some character and history to your space.
  • Plants and flowers: Plants and flowers are another way to add some color and life to your space, and to connect with nature. You can use plants and flowers of different types, colors, and sizes, such as succulents, orchids, roses, or lilies, and place them in pots, vases, baskets, or terrariums. You can also use plants and flowers that have a fragrance or a benefit, such as lavender, mint, or aloe vera, to add some aroma and healing to your space.
  • Rugs and curtains: Rugs and curtains are a way to add some color and texture to your space, and to define or separate different areas. You can use rugs and curtains of different patterns, colors, and materials, such as geometric, floral, or striped, and wool, cotton, or silk. You can also use rugs and curtains that have a theme or a motif, such as a nautical, a tropical, or a bohemian, to add some personality and charm to your space.
